I love everything about this video.
It says a lot about a company that is willing to share–dare I say even celebrate–their more spectacular failures. Behold this fascinating and entertaining compilation of Falcon 9 booster landing oopsies published earlier today by SpaceX:
SpaceX fans have probably already seen most of these, er, rapid unscheduled disassemblies, but there is some new (or new to me) footage here that I’ve never seen before. For example, until today I had never seen how the Falcon 9 “scooted” around the barge during its return to Cape Canaveral in May 2016 after a successful ocean landing. Hopefully SpaceX has perfected the tie-down robot that is supposed to automatically secure the booster before its voyage back to Florida. It would well and truly suck to stick a landing at sea, only to have the booster fall overboard on the way home!
My hat, as ever, is off to the wizards at SpaceX. Not only for how they are revolutionizing space travel, but also for their corporate humility and sense of humor. Bravo!
