I am heartbroken by the news of the catastrophic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. As of this writing (6:23 PM EDT on April 15, 2019) no deaths or injuries have been reported, but the magnificent central spire has been destroyed and much of the interior has been gutted by the blaze—a devastating architectural, historical, and cultural loss.
I visited the city on a Friday-Sunday photo tour back in May 2012, but for some reason didn’t get to the cathedral that weekend. Below are the only photos I could find that I captured of the cathedral on that trip. Both of these were taken from the rotunda walkway of the Panthéon dome.
My very best wishes to the people of France and the citizens of Paris on this very sad day.
